Setting up the Microsoft Authenticator for MFA
- Go to My Sign-Ins | Security Info | Microsoft.com
- Select “Add Sign-in Method”
3. Select “Microsoft Authenticator”
4. On your phone, install the “Microsoft Authenticator” app.
- You can go directly to the app download with the appropriate QR code below, or searching for the “Microsoft Authenticator” in the app store.
- If you search for it, it will most likely be the second search result. Unscrupulous companies pay to appear before it in search results. The real version will never ask you to pay money. It has a blue padlock icon as shown below.
5. Open the app.
6. If asked to sign into an account, skip for now.
7. Allow notifications when asked.
8. Select “Add account”, and pick “Work or School”
9. Select “Scan QR Code”
10. On your computer, click next until you are presented with a QR code. Then scan it with your phone.
11. Your computer will give you a 2 digit number. Enter it into the notification that appears on your phone, and confirm the request.
12. You should now have the Microsoft Authenticator connected to your account.
